Want to feel good today? Want to bring yourself a little happiness? Here are 6 simple things that once you do them, will actually brighten your day. If you make it a routine and do them every day for a week, you will find your outlook start to change and your confidence begin to grow. Try it for a month and watch habits begin to form in a good way!
1. When checking out of a store, put your cell phone away and actually look at the cashier and acknowledge them by name. If they have been trained with good customer service, they will likely say something like "Good afternoon, how are you today?" or something similar to which you reply. " I am doing great (insert their name), how are you doing?" I can't tell you how many times I encounter a look of surprise. Often times, when I don't know how to pronounce their name, I will simply ask them how they say it and then follow it up with a compliment on what a great name it is. People love to be called by their name - try it. Not only will you make someone else feel good, but it makes you feel good as well.
2. Give someone a sincere compliment. The next time you are waiting in a line at the bank or grocery store, or post office, etc. find something nice to say to someone standing there with you. It could even be the co-worker you are riding in the elevator with. Perhaps it is a great pair of shoes, or their well-behaved kids that you notice. Whatever it is, pass it along!
3. Tell someone you love them. This should be easy for you because we all have people we love in our lives, so tell them. Send a random text to your mom (take it from me, she will love it), call your best friend, your sibling, your spouse. Just do it, and do it everyday! If you want to feel loved, then show love.
4. Smile. Yes, you heard me - smile more often. Ever notice the people around you who are smiling? They make everyone around them feel good. They light up the energy of a room when they enter. So make a conscious effort to smile more often. I guarantee you that it will impact the attitudes of people around you and in turn brighten your day.
5. Write down 5 things that you are thankful for. Do it - even if you are jotting them down on a napkin. If you do this every single day, you will begin to see your life differently. When you look at the positive things in your life it draws your attention away from any of the negative. Positive people attract positive people, so start recognizing all the good things and see how your life will begin to change.
6. Go on Facebook and like someone's post or Facebook page. Sounds simple, because it is simple. I didn't realize until my own daughter created a Facebook page for her music what it meant to have people show their support by liking her page. It truly makes her very happy to see the number of likes climb. (You can like her page by going to https://www.facebook.com/juliaruffmusic - thanks!) Not only that but simply 'liking' someone's post shows support to another human being. It will make you both feel good!
So go ahead and try these simple things. It is one thing to say you want to make a change in your life, it's another to actually do something about it. 6. Simple. Things. Start today and let me know how it goes!
Lesson learned: We bring happiness to our lives by doing simple things to impact the lives of others.
Be Great!
